Beethoven: Piano Sonata no.31 in A-flat, op.110 I. Moderato
2 Apr 2020
Beethoven completed his second to last piano sonata, op.110 in 1821 as he recovered from a serious illness. It contains the most profound expressions of human emotion: love and gratitude, humor, resignation, sadness, optimism and persistence. The first movement asks the performer to play cantabile, with great expression and love. This sonata is a musical portrait of physical and spiritual rebirth, and the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.
