Fantasia in c minor for piano, orchestra and chorus, op.80 | I. Adagio
2 Apr 2020
Perhaps no other concert cancelled this season due to the COVID-19 world pandemic was more dear to my heart than my scheduled performance of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with El Paso Symphony Orchestra and El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra on my birthday March 29. This extraordinary work for piano, orchestra and chorus embodies the triumph of light over darkness and the power of the arts on humanity, and my memory of Rudolf Serkin’s performance inspired me to become a musician. I look forward to sharing the passion and joy that flows throughout this score with the people of El Paso and with the rest of the world in the future, and hope it’s message of strength in unity inspires us to celebrate life again and again.
