“The Poet Speaks”
22 Oct 2018
Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen, op.15 is much more than twelve musical depictions of scenes from a child’s life and perspective. It is music as poetry, where the languages of sound and speech are one and the composer uses one to create the other. In the thirteenth piece, “The Poet Speaks“, Schumann the adult appears before us to make his own declamatory statement, perhaps expressing his longing for the happier days of his own childhood.
